The Wait

I drove out to see her this evening
It’s been a while since I last tried
I told no one that I was leaving
The questions make me bleed inside

I brought Daisies, her favorite flower
Hard to believe I still have the same fears
Just sat in the truck for over an hour
Hands trembling, holding back my tears

Staring at the gate trying to summon the might
The anguish inside me is never any less
Sitting there in silence with her within sight
My heart torn by sorrow still so fresh

Stepping out my legs shaking
I make my way down the winding trail
As I draw closer my heart is racing
When I see her all else seems to pale

Standing beside her trembling in fear
My whole body shakes as I kneel
My soul weeps the loss still so near
Reaching out my hand dreading the feel

I brush away the leaves and sand
So that I can read my loves name
The stone is so cold against my hand
Like my heart cold with no flame

My soul has long since joined her
But my body still lingers on
For this sickness there is no cure
So I wait for the day I’m gone

Oh wow! What a beautiful yet tradgic poem with that heart sinking twist at the end...
Its a style i often use!

I loved it...very clever, very sad, very well written! Adore it!
